Nancy and Kit proudly welcome old friend and master wood carver Jim Francis to our Shop in Aurora on Friday, May 24 from 3pm to 6pm. At the Shop, we’ve been displaying a small chickadee to show Jim’s work and have been looking for the perfect opportunity to bring him down the lake from Union Springs to celebrate his art and our friendship.

Jim’s elegantly detailed, naturalistic carvings of native songbirds, shorebirds and fish are complemented by expertly carved walking sticks & canes, money banks in the shape of hippos and other whimsies in wood.

Jim will be at the Shop possibly with a work in progress to discuss his approach and craft. His pieces have sold to buyers across the globe so this is your chance to buy it from the artist first hand.

It was worth the drive!

We are honored and pleased to say our 2011 Traminette was selected as Best Finger Lakes White Wine!! We are grateful to be included alongside Billsboro Winery in that category and honestly flattered to have been nominated at all. Thank you to one and all for voting for us.

Wine Classes at Bet the Farm http://betthefarmny.com/news/2013/01/15/wine-classes-at-bet-the-farm/ http://betthefarmny.com/news/2013/01/15/wine-classes-at-bet-the-farm/#comments Tue, 15 Jan 2013 16:46:44 +0000 Administrator http://betthefarmny.com/news/?p=197 Bet the Farm holds a monthly Wine Class on various topics, some focusing on history, culture and regional variety, some on the science of wine tasting and perception. Some of our wine class “students” have been with us for 4+ years. But, we’re always looking to expand our offerings so we have listed the January class along with two new “primer” classes in February.
All classes are $20 per person (25% discount for Wine List members)

FRIDAY, May 17 – 6:30 to 8:30 – “White Wines Off the Beaten Palate”
OK, OK . . . we know it is Riesling month in the Finger Lakes. And we know that Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer love growing here. Yet, in our next class we are seeking out the wonderful flavors of uncommon white wines found throughout the world. Maybe we’ll sample Aligote from Burgundy, Vino Verdhe from Portugal, Torrentes from Argentina, Muller-Thurgau from Germany or even Retsina from Greece. As the weather warms, we are looking for the wines that express their terroir and make great food wines.

New to the class? Want to give it a try? Call 315-294-5643 to reserve a seat.

This past spring, we licensed as a Farm Winery at Sunrise Hill Vineyard just north of Interlaken. The building we are leasing was built as a winery but has remained dormant since 2003. With this move, we expect to continue to increase our annual production. We hope you continue to support us and watch us grow. Many thanks to Lou Damiani, Phil Davis, and Glenn Allen for their years of support.
